LITERARY LIBRARY LEADERS
(LIBRARY ARTS) JUNE
Children in Kindergarten through second grade will close out this school year with the legendary Dr. Seuss. During his storied career, Seuss published over 60 books including: Horton Hears a Who (1955), The Cat in the Hat (1957), How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1957), and Green Eggs and Ham (1960). Through class and partner discussions our younger children will thrill to his wordplay.
Students in grades three through five will continue exploring the stories of Mexican-American poet, novelist, and memoirist Gary Soto. We end our study with Soto’s, The Karate Kid, a tale about a boy who is convinced that he too can master karate, simply by seeing the movie. Older students will make predictions based on the character’s goal and modify expectations as the story unfolds.
